Fundraising for Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
Heart Month means rallying together in support of a cause which strives to reduce heart disease and stroke in Canada. In February 2010, the Albion Islington BIA is partnering with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario to help build awareness of this leading cause of death. Every February, hundreds of organizations across Toronto support the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s many exciting Heart Month activities. With their support, the Foundation has been able to take one step closer to protecting Canadians from these devastating diseases.
The Albion Islington Square Business Improvement Area is a unique shopping district, showcasing a mix of retail shops on Albion Road and Islington Avenue. Participating stores will display a colourful Heart Month poster in their windows and feature a Heart and Stroke Foundation donation box to collect change and small bills. Please show your support for Heart Month by visiting participating stores and donating from February 8-14.
Across Canada, every seven minutes, someone dies from heart disease or stroke and every 10 minutes someone dies or is disabled by stroke. If survived, heart disease and stroke require the most advanced care available, and these diseases cost more than $22 million a year in health care. Through fundraising support, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has been able to fund over 450 research teams in Ontario, who are currently pursuing more than 300 new discoveries. Take part in Heart Month and help the Heart and Stroke Foundation continue this important work!
